No matter where you go, your body is right there with you. Hopefully, you are happy with it. Based upon our physical pre-disposition and circumstances, including age, weight gain and post pregnancy, people can develop a tummy tire, love handles and accumulate excess weight in the abdomen that will not go away – even with diet and exercise. As men and women age, fat accumulates and muscle tone diminishes and it becomes harder to shed pounds and unwanted pockets of fat across the stomach and thickening in the mid-area of the body.
This battle of the bulge is very common, which is why abdominal liposuction is such a popular procedure, using the Tumescent Liposuction technique as a way to remove the unwanted fat and regain confidence with the way your body looks and feels. An abdominal liposuction procedure, using the Tumescent Liposuction, also known as Tumescent Liposculpture will add to contour your shape and change the way your clothes fit. You will be pleased with your waist again.
The abdominal liposuction procedure is much safer than a traditional tummy tuck, because of the local anesthetic procedure used to numb the area when performing the Tumescent technique. In addition, the laser process gently melts away layers of fat and helps skin tightening in the area. Very few incisions are made in the upper and lower abdomen to perform the suctioning process – sometimes as little as one or two. A cannula is the instrument that is used to suction out the unwanted fat from the designated areas, using slow, gentle movements – resulting in less pain, bruising and recovery time for clients. With Tumescent abdominal liposculpting, there is nominal downtime, compared with a tummy tuck.
Here are some other advantages:
- The results of this procedure are permanent and the results are remarkable and noticeable, immediately.
- Refine your physical appearance and experience a more sculpted, flatter, tighter and more defined waist area
- Tumescent liposuction is performed with only light sedation, so patients are still semi-awake and cognizant throughout the procedure.
- Most patients are back to work within one to two days.
Is abdominal liposuction the right choice for me?
Men and women alike benefit from abdominal liposuction. This surgical procedure allows for moderate amounts of fat to be safely removed with little downtime, post-surgery. Patients will see immediate results. Men regain definition, even the most desired six-pack appeal in many cases. Women get a slimmer, more refined waist and they regain a shapely, contoured figure. Men and women, both recapture a smoother stomach area from their younger years, before pregnancy, age and weight gain. The recovery time is quick and typically, there is minimal post-op bruising and pain.
What should I expect from the procedure?
Tumescent abdominal liposuction or liposculpting is performed on-site in our safe, state-of-the-art clinic, so there are no additional fees. Patients are lightly sedated with a local anesthesia, so they remain awake and coherent throughout the surgery. The process is simple, patients are numbed and then one or two small incisions are made in the upper and lower abdomen for the placement of the cannula, the small tubular instrument that acts as vacuum to remove the fat. The cannula is only 3 mm in size, so it leaves no unsightly scars. Abdominal liposuction lasts only two hours, and patients are able to walk out of the office with a newly sculpted body. Patients are not permitted to drive, however. Each patient will need to be picked up after the surgery and driven home.
What determines a good candidate for this surgery?
It is recommended that patients are in good health when undergoing any surgery to reduce risks and potential complications. Abdominal liposuction is not recommended for individuals who are grossly overweight or obese. This procedure is not a means of removing weight in excess, it is a more a procedure to remove moderate amounts of fat and contour the mid-section and waist area of the body. This procedure is recommended for people that have fatty deposits under the abdominal muscle – and patients with barrel-shaped waists, muffin tops, tummy rolls, spare tires and post-pregnancy flab that does not respond to exercise or diet.
Will the surgery leave scars or excess, sagging skin?
Abdominal liposuction leaves only one or two small punctures or incision marks on the upper and lower stomach area, each is only 3 mm wide. These incision marks heal very quickly after the surgery and scarring is usually not an issue, because they are so small and they fade to the blend into the natural color of the skin. However, scarring is a big concern with tummy tucks and traditional liposuction.
People below the age of 60 with good skin tone will not experience sagging skin after the surgery, which is another benefit of the Tumescent liposuction technique. This procedure is designed to promote skin tightening as the fat is removed. Older patients and people who experience considerable weight loss actually pursue Tumescent liposuction as a solution to sagging, flabby skin.
Are there any post-surgery side effects?
Because Tumescent liposuction is such a safe and targeted procedure and the refined instruments used to perform the surgery, the side effects are minimal and any discomfort or mild soreness goes away within a day or two. There are no stitches and the tiny puncture wounds heal within two days. Patients may have mild discomfort and perhaps some light bruising, but they can walk, resume normal activities and return to work within 24 to 48 hours. Each patient is required to wear a compression, under garment around the surgical area for three days and nights, and for at least eight hours a day for two weeks. The garment is very similar to an Ace bandage and it is easy to wrap and unwrap and is not noticeable under clothing.
There may be some slight swelling in the abdominal area after the procedure, which will subside after the Tumescent solution is absorbed and eliminated through the body, but there is no pain associated with this healing process. The waist and stomach areas tend to take the longest to recover from Tumescent liposuction, and great results are visible within a month or two – and final results within six months.
Can this procedure affect fertility and the ability to get pregnant in the future?
This is an important question, but the answer is no. Abdominal liposuction is superficial procedure that only removes fatty deposits from the region under the skin and above the muscle, so it will not affect muscle tissue, organs or the ability to have children.
