• How many treatments do I need?
  • Anywhere between 3 to 6 treatments on average.
• How much of a reduction should I have after several treatments?
  • You can expect anywhere between 80% – 95% hair reduction after six treatments. Any remaining hair will be thinner and less significant. No other laser provides better results than the Lumenis Light Sheer.
• Is laser hair removal permanent?
  • Laser hair removal is only effective on dark hairs therefore cannot be called permanent because it does not remove red white blonde or gray hair.
• Why is hair still there and why is it growing after 1-3 weeks from the treatment?
  • The laser does not remove hair at treatment time, but hair will fall 1 or 3 weeks after the treatment.
• Why does the laser not work on blonde gray or red hair?
  • Because the laser is attracted to pigment in the hair follicle, and these colors of hair do not contain enough pigment and are not seen by the laser therefore, are unable to be treated.
• Why is hair still growing 1-3 weeks after my treatment?
  • This is not new hair growth, but it is the old hair that was treated that is pushing itself out. It appears to be growing, but it falls out painlessly anywhere between one to three weeks after the treatment.
• Why should you avoid waxing, tweezing or plucking hairs six weeks before and after the treatment?
  • The hair root must be present for the laser to work. If it has been removed, there is nothing for the laser energy to interact with.
• Why should you avoid sun exposure four weeks before and after your treatment?
  • For the most safe and effective treatment, excessive exposure must be avoided for four weeks before the treatment to decrease the risk of burning blistering, scabbing and scarring.
• Why is it necessary to shave the day of your treatment?
  • The cleaner the shave, the more effective the treatment, as the laser is closer to the root of the hair and there is less chance of burning due to present surface hair.
• Can any area of the body be treated?
  • Yes, any area that has dark hair except eyelashes and eyebrows.
• Does the treatment hurt?
  • The treatment is mildly uncomfortable for some individuals which state it feels like a rubber band snap.
• What are the possible side effects of laser hair removal?
  • A sunburn effect is common immediately following a treatment for up to 24 hours. There is a risk of burning, blistering, scabbing and scarring, a lightening or darkening of the skin that may or may not be permanent.
• How long does the treatment take?
  • Most areas can be treated in under 10 minutes with larger areas taking only about 20 minutes.
• How will my skin look after the treatment?
  • The treated area may have a mild redness, and the hair follicles will look like goosebumps for a few hours, lasting up to a couple of days for some patients.
• How long will it take for hair to grow again?
  • Depending on the individual, treatment parameters and body area. Hair can grow back about 2 to 4 months after the treatment .
• What is a “test zone” and what is it for?
  • A test zone is a small skin area that is treated with various energy levels before bigger areas and darker skin tones. Test zones are done on darker skin tones to determine what energy level is best for the individual. Lighter skin tones generally do not need to run test zones, but this is determined by the technician.
